FIELDWORK
Research/Observation Title
Mechanical properities of aritificial fine-grained ice
Science Summary (common)
We conducted deformation experiments using artificial polycrystalline ice with and without microparticles. To simulate the deformation mechanism in ice sheets, we used fine-grained ice. Initial grain sizes are 60, 58, and 38 micrometer for pure ice, 0.01 and 0.1 wt.% silica-dispersed ice. The dataset shows the strain rates variations against strain for each sample. Deformation experiments are conducted at stresses between 0.2 and 1.0 MPa and temperatures between -5 and -50 oC.
