シベリア北極域で繁殖する代表的鳥類であり、越冬地である日本でも親しまれながら、季節移動ルートと亜種関係がいまだ不明なコクガンBranta bernicla ssp. について、越冬地（北海道）において、日露を中心とした国際共同調査体制による生体捕獲と標識装着を試行する。
