ID-117 : Primary production and transportation of organic materials in the northern Bering and the southern Chukchi Seas
Type
FIELDWORK
Research/Observation Title
Primary production and transportation of organic materials in the northern Bering and the southern Chukchi Seas
Science Summary (common)
As a part of an ArCS subproject (marine ecosystem group in the theme 6), samplings on water, zooplankton and sediment, and measurements on optical profile in the water column have been conducted in the waters near the Bering Strait. Based on those samplings and observations, data on elemental contents in sea bottom sediments, biomass of macro-benthos, and vertical profiles of optical feature in the water column would be available.

Research/Observation Methods
Optical profile contains: 1) Underwater spectral irradiance and radiance, 2) In-situ backscattering coefficients, 3) photosynthetic available radiation (PAR), and 4) Light absorption coefficients of particles and colored dissolved organic materials (CDOM).Graging rate would be estimated with concentration of gut pigment in major zooplankton species (i.e., copepods).
