シベリア北極域の生物多様性保全の表徴種であり、北方先住民の重要な資源でもある陸生中大型哺乳類（トナカイ、ジャコウウシ、ホッキョクグマ、ホッキョクギツネ）の季節移動と生息地利用の実態を先住民と協働した国際共同研究によって明らかにするために、捕獲追跡調査（生体捕獲・サンプリング・衛星発信機装着）を行う。
